Break from revision
Hi Guys,
Recently I have had AS exams so been stuck inside revising so I was looking forward to a paddling weekend away! Last Saturday was the second event of the British Championship League at the Tryweryn so there was no chance of a lie in as I wanted to be on the water for 9:30ish to get some practice in the top hole. Leaving the house at 6 we began the 3 hour drive up to North Wales. Arriving to find the car park in some rare sunshine we quickly got changed into paddling kit and seal launched into the cold water of the River Tryweryn. I had about 30mins to put together a competition ride in the tricky feature.
I was in the first heat of Junior Men with (to name a few); Sam Stephenson, Charles Blyth and Matt Rodgers. My runs consisted of helixs, cartweels, splitwheels and loops. I kept it simple to avoid flushing out of the feature and down to the next eddy. All 3 of my rides went well and I hit most of the planned moves. Sam and I then hopped in some creek boats to have a play down the rest of the Tryweryn throwing flairs, splats and boofs! After another run down in play boats it was time to head off to South Wales for some surf! I later found out that I finished 3rd in the U18s! Due to the way the age system works this counts as a 2nd place for GBR selections! Hopefully I can keep up this form to gain a place on the GBR team for the 2012 European Championships.
After another 3 hour drive we reached St Davids in Pembrokeshire at about 18:00, we were camping on campsite right next to Whitesands Beach. As usual the wind was blowing but at least this meant there would be good waves! On Sunday, Sam and I got up for a morning surf. The waves were about 5ft but then increased to about 7ft at times! This was the first time I had my Project X on a wave and I thought it was great! It is fast and bounces high! I was throwing some huge air blunts, back blunts and air screws, even on some of the smaller waves! Sam and I stayed out for about 2 hours and we had a great time. I also went for an evening surf, although the waves were smaller I was still managing to throw blunts and flashbacks! Monday’s surf was about a foot high so I had a chilled day on the beach.
I had a great weekend and it was good to have a break from revision! Anyway… back to physics!
See you on the water
