Training at Hurley

For today’s training session it was a more leisurely start (6.45 compared to the normal 5.30!). The weir was on 4 and the weather was cold but we 'manned up' and hit the water. I was working on Phonics Monkeys and Flip Turns. The session went well and we all finished tiered but feeling like we had learnt something.

This was my last paddle for 2009 as I am going skiing over the Christams holidays!

See you on the water

Training with the Spanish Freestyle Team

Last weekend the Spanish were coming over to England to experience cold water paddling (and some of England’s 'features'). Jacko, being their coach, asked Sam and I to show them the ropes of Hurley. So once again we made the trip along the M4 to find a very international paddling scene at the Car park. One of our coaches, Den Newton, was there to coach some Swedish paddlers; we met up with Kime (who came 4th at the worlds) and his mates. The weir was on a chunky 4 gates but the Spanish were soon getting in the swing of things. Not having any expectations of what is possible they were throwing moves such as donkey flips and back pan ams! Although it was cold we had a great day and it was good to paddle with people from other countries and gauge ourselves against them.
