Got a brief mention on Dirt Mountain Bike Mags website today. I'd sent them a link from UKRGB to a crazy kayak type riding a bike (!) down Right Angle Falls on the Etive. Check it out here http://dirtmag.co.uk/news/category/dirt-team/waterfalls/dirt-1234087.html

It's that man Ed Smith again, this time he's in the excellent on-line digital Ford-CMax digital magazine, showing what a great sport kayaking is and teaching someone to roll and have a go at whitewater. Check it out here - http://cde.cerosmedia.com/1Y48bfade549bdb012.cde

CKUK's freestyler about town Ed Smith ironed a shirt and dusted down his best chinos yesterday for a visit to the Blue Peter studios. The episode featured the three presenters sea kayaking with whales in Alaska and then some impressive clips of Ed steep creeking and freestyling. Ed then appeared in the studio and spoke briefly about the sport and demonstrated some gear and a kayak. We spoke briefly to Ed as he was waiting to catch a plane from London to back Uni in Cornwall. He said, "The crew and presenters where all so professional and friendly I felt really relaxed when it came time to go on camera. I just wanted to portray our sport in a positive way and hopefully inspire more kids to get involved and give it a go. You can see Ed's episode on the BBC iPlayer here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00f2f7s/Blue_Peter_15102008/

Our very own Freestyler At large and regular contributor and columnist Ed Smith has only gone and won the GB Freestyle Championships. Everyone at CK Towers would like to give him a slap on the back and buy him a pint or two (when he's out of training of course). As regular readers will jknow Ed's a bit handy at the freestyle thing (and creeking, and racing etc) but he put up some great scores and showed control and consistency to take the title. Headed over to Leicester last night to meet up with Intern Ross to go for a paddle with the Guys & Gals of Paddleplus Canoe Club, as part of our new canoe club feature. The club meet at a great little centre (Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre www.lopc.co.uk) right on the banks of the River Soar. First on the water where the nippers; who all seemed to be having a fine time racing coracles, or practising their skills in playboats. Once the juniors where done it was time for the adults to hop on for the 'long paddle'. Ross and I got in to kayaking gear and headed off in to the darkness for a very enjoyable, and social, paddle three miles to the Hope and Anchor Pub. It was great to see plenty of open boats, alongside river kayaks and poor ol' Ross was getting some stick, and working up a sweat, for paddling his playboat. Check out issue 93 for a full report on the club and our nocturnal adventures. If you'd like us to come along and join your club for a session or a river trip on your home waters drop us a line through the team page - www.canoekayak.co.uk/contributors/ if you'd like to get involved with Paddleplus check out www.paddleplus.co.uk
